Hi folks, excuse my english…i’m french!
Nosy Be & its surroundings
With its unique simplicity and softness of life, the north-west coast of Madagascar is to be discovered by sea…”Mora mora”
At Ambatolokoa, the little St Trop’ of Nosy Be, the only street becomes really busy and lively after sunset. Shops, bars, stalls, ‘gargotes’, hairdressers and some good restaurants are found all over the place.
During the cool season (may to october), the region of Nosy Be enjoys an exceptional climate with welcoming sea and predictable breezes. Isolated on the wild coast and some scattered islands, small villages are barely visible from the sea. With sometimes only a dozen of ‘ravenale’ houses, remoteness and lack of everything seems impossible to overcome.
But the breeze will push fishermen away in the morning and bring them back in the afternoon. Meals are cooked outside near the house on wood charcoal, mainly fish and rice.
On Nosy Komba, there is not even a bicycle. Outside the normal tourist trails you land on the sandy football field of Antitourne village because it’s high tide. Suprisingly here there is more space between much nicer houses. Cleaned paths everywhere, water and electricity from the stream uphill, basic medical care, agricultural initiatives and…a school. But a real one! with concrete walls, computers… This is the Stefano project: a sustainable and harmonious development model.
Anchored in the shelter of Russian bay along the coast, after the light breeze died with the sun you can only hear voices and laughters from the village with no lights…
